Meet Laura, The Founder Of Landlord Moments
Hi I’m Laura,
I’m a Landlord based in Leeds and I’ve started this blog to help landlords navigate renting by sharing my experiences, advice and reliably researched content.
I want to create a space for all landlords to learn, share experiences, wisdom, tips, and the occasional moan. While my landlord experience has been sometimes frustrating I want to emphasise its mostly been a rewarding journey.
‘I’m not trying to sell anything”
It’s important I say upfront that I’m not an influencer or a property mogul.
Honestly I’m fed up with all the so-called property influencers on social media. You know the ones I mean, they’ve got a live video in their Range Rover, and you think, “Wow, they must know what they’re doing. I’ll follow them.”
But before you know it, they’re bombarding you with emails and texts, “Buy my book!” “Sign up for my £999 five-day convention in Birmingham!” It’s exhausting. I’ve been there, and I’m just so done with it.
I’m just a small landlord, sharing my experience from what’s been a sometimes frustrating but mostly rewarding journey.
If you’re still reading, it’s nice to meet you.
About Me
I have two leasehold flats and two freehold houses. It’s taken me eight years to get here, with some remortgaging, sleepless nights, and moments when I thought, “I can’t do this anymore.” Especially after the interest rate hike of 2023.
For me, being a landlord is a side hustle that supports my part-time work. It boosts my income, helps me save for rainy days, and gives me the flexibility to spend time with my kids while they’re still at home. As a single mum, that time is so important to me.
This journey hasn’t been all smooth sailing, there’ve been ups and downs, just like a 9-5 job. But I see being a landlord as a service to the public, and that mindset keeps me going.
I’ve had my fair share of challenges, with one of the hardest dealing with EWS1 compliance after the Grenfell tragedy. I was hit with a bill of thousands of pounds for one of the leasehold flats. That was a really rough time.
But despite all that, I made it through. Now, the properties are profitable, my tenants are happy, and I have great relationships with them. They don’t want to leave, the properties have gone up in value, and I can finally sleep better at night.
I’m proud of myself for not giving up, even when it felt like the odds were stacked against me. The constant government legislation, the doubling of interest rates, rising insurance costs, and energy hikes… it’s been relentless. And don’t get me started on how the media paints landlords as villains.
It’s frustrating when the real issue is a lack of housing. I provide great homes for great people, and that’s something I take pride in.
If this blog sounds like something you’d like to be part of, follow me! I’d love to connect with you, hear your experiences, and lighten the load together.
